The story of Shambhala
— Nicholas Roerich
Shambhala is a hidden kingdom from Tibetan legend, said to lie somewhere beyond the snow peaks, a place of peace and wisdom.
Russian painter Nicholas Roerich spent years on expeditions through Central Asia and Tibet looking for it, painting mountains hundreds of times over. But he didn't end up in some secret land. He chose a stone-and-timber house in the village of Naggar, in the Kullu Valley, and painted that valley until the end of his life.
Maybe Shambhala was never a place, but what we find once we stop searching. Before we can stop, though, we first have to start walking... to search.
— Nicholas Roerich never actually said this
We'll stay four nights in that same valley, visit his home, and give ourselves time to feel what this artist found there.
